ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Former Sonoma State men's soccer student-athlete Raspreet Sandhu has joined Tampines Rovers Football Club, a professional team in the top level of Singapore's football pyramid. Sandhu played at Sonoma State from 2013 to 2015, scoring four goals and seven assists. He led the Seawolves in assists with six as a sophomore in 2014.
The signing has additional significance for the club and Sandhu family because Raspreet's father Kal played professionally for Tampines Rovers FC, as well.
Marcus Ziemer, Head Coach, Sonoma State University:
"Raspreet is an excellent player. Not only is he quick and agile, but his ball skills are outstanding. He is crafty on the dribble and also has excellent vision and can break teams down with his passing. He is tough to mark out of a game and is very competitive and hates to lose. Raspreet has an excellent shot with both feet and scored some big goals for us. Working very hard, he has always been one of the first on the training ground and the last to leave. All of his hard work has paid off".
Desmund Khusnin, General Manager, Tampines Rovers FC:
"Raspreet Sandhu joining TRFC is a bit of a historic moment as Kal Sandhu, his father, used to play for Tampines Rovers and this is great for football in Singapore as it evidences the passion for football that runs through generations. Raspreet joins us on our AFC campaign. He has impressed us in trials and we hope he ends up having a long future with us".
Jita Singh, Director of Football Excellence, Tampines Rovers FC:
"Raspreet would be starting on the Singapore national team if he was a citizen; he has great attitude and disposition".
