Offensive Surge Propels Sonoma State To Doubleheader Sweep

ROHNERT PARK-- Sonoma State brought their hitting shoes to Seawolf Softball Field on Saturday as they combined for a season-high 25 runs in a 16-1 game one victory and a 9-0 game two win. Both of the victories induced the mercy rule after the top of the fifth inning. Saturday was also Senior Day, as Ancia Purdy, Keeley Ray, Amanda Rossetta, and Holli Brown played their final home games for the Seawolves. The wins officially clinched a CCAA tournament berth for the Seawolves.  Sonoma State improves their CCAA record to 21-10 and 35-16 overall. San Francisco State falls to 6-26 in the conference and 11-37 overall.

Game 1

Sonoma State got on the board early in a big way. They sent 16 batters to the plate and scored 10 runs before the #nomanation had a chance to get settled in to their seats. The 10-run inning was highlighted by a pair of home runs by Rossetta and Brown. Rossetta's came with the Seawolves up 1-0 and went over the left field wall to score three and make it 4-0.  Brown's made it back-to-back home runs when she hit a solo home run.

Ray ripped a triple to open the scoring in the second inning that scored Purdy and Aubrie Tolliver to make it 12-0. The Seawolves would tack-on two more to end the second up 14. The last two runs of the game came in the bottom of the third when Ray singled to score Emma Ryan and Rossetta was hit by a pitch that brought home Tolliver from third.

Purdy went 5 for 5 with an RBI and three runs. Jena Kaser went 2 for 3 with five RBI's. Ray went 3 for 5 with four RBI's. Rossetta also collected four RBI's. Tolliver had three hits in four plate appearances and Brown had two RBI's.  The 16 runs was a season-high for Sonoma State.

Amanda Llerena started the game for the Seawolves and pitched two innings and didn't allow any runs or any hits. Gabby Dupree earned the win (4-0) going three innings and allowing one earned run on three hits.

Megan Clark took the loss (19-11) giving up seven earned runs on four hits. Aryn Guzman went 1 for 2 with an RBI for the Gators.

Game 2

The latter half of the doubleheader started off with a crooked number just like the first game. Kaser got the scoring started when she knocked in Purdy from third with a sacrifice fly to left field. The Seawolves went up 2-0 on a Rossetta single that scored Ray.
The Seawolves would cap-off their scoring in the first when Tolliver singled to allow Rossetta to score. The Seawolves would plate two more in the second and one more in the third to carry a 6-0 lead into bottom of the fourth inning.

Needing two runs to invoke the mercy rule, Sonoma State did one better and scored three to make it 9-0. Kaser singled to score Purdy to make it 7-0. A Brown single to left-center and fielding error by the left fielder allowed Karly Macadangdang to score all the way from first base and make it 8-0. The ninth run came when Ashley Long doubled home Brown. The Seawolves were able to get the final three outs in the fifth and went home taking three out of four this weekend from the Gators.

Purdy went 2 for 2 with three runs in game two and went 7 for 7 overall in the doubleheader. She reached base all eight times she came to the plate Saturday. She also had three stolen bases in both games combined. Kaser went 1 for 1 with three RBI's in game two. That made eight combined RBI's for the day. Long went 3 for 3 with an RBI. Ray extended her CCAA record of reaching base 51 straight games. Llerena pitched five innings and got the win (20-10) allowing no earned runs on five hits while striking out four.

Jenny Obbema got the loss (3-8) giving up five earned runs on six hits. Selina Rodriguez went 2 for 2 for the Gators.

The Seawolves complete their regular season next weekend at Cal State Stanislaus with four games. The first two will be played Friday starting at 4:00 P.M.
