BOX SCORE ROHNERT PARK, Calif-
Steven Pratt became Sonoma State's all-time assists leader after handing out a game-high seven assists in addition to his team-high 13 points, helping the Seawolves to defeat visiting Chico State, 61-54, on Monday night at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park. SSU (3-6, 1-4 CCAA) earned its first conference victory of the year, snapping a five-game losing streak. The Wildcats fell to 7-3 overall and 2-3 in the CCAA. It was the 14th win over Chico State in Sonoma State's last 15 games in Rohnert Park.
Pratt now has 312 assists in his career, topping Antoine Woods' (1991-92, 93-94) mark of 305. He also has 973 career points and needs just 27 more to become the 11th student-athlete in program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone. He led the team with eight rebounds and had one steal as well.
Justin Herold scored all 12 of his points in the first half on 6 of 13 shooting.
Patrick Scott added seven points in the victory.
It was an extremely close game from start to finish, but Sonoma State jumped out to an eight-point lead at 23-15 with 4:33 left in the first half. However, Chico State would get to within two points at 28-26, but the Seawolves would get a pair of scores from Herold to take a 32-26 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Seawolves held the lead the whole way, but the Wildcats would cut the lead to just three points (47-44) on a free throw by Damario Sims with 7:33 left in the game. SSU would then score the next five points to lead by eight once again at 52-44 with 5:42 remaining. A jumper by Chico's Jordan Semple would put the Wildcats down four points, but it would be as close as they would get as the Seawolves held off Chico for the eventual 61-54 victory.
Sean Park was the only Chico State player in double-figures; he scored 20 points on 6 of 12 shooting from the floor and 7 of 11 from the free throw line. He also added a team-high eight rebounds. Jay Flores had nine points and passed out four assists.
Sonoma State will take a 12-day break from competition over the Holidays before returning to action on New Years Eve, when it hosts Humboldt State at The Wolves' Den. Tipoff between the Seawolves and Lumberjacks is set for 3:00 p.m.
