ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Two high school seniors have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their basketball careers for the men's basketball program at Sonoma State University, associate head coach
Rich Shayewitz announced Monday. Brian Crow and Cody Brice will join the Seawolves for the 2010-11 season.
Crow, a 6-foot-6 forward from nearby Novato High School, was an All-Marin County Athletic League selection and the Hornets' Most Valuable Player as a sophomore, junior and senior.
“Brian's skills are unlike anyone we currently have, Shayewitz said. “He will be an outstanding inside-outside threat. He is an outstanding shooter and passer, and his versatility will allow us to do many different things with the line up.
In addition to his abilities on the court, Crow was honored as a Scholar Athlete in his four years at Novato.
“Most importantly, Brian is an outstanding student who values his education, Shayewitz added. “He will be an extremely valuable addition to the program, on and off the court.”
Brice, a 6-foot-9 post hailing from Hanford, was named the Offensive Player of the Year for Hanford West High School this past season and helped the Huskies to a Division III Valley Championship in 2009. Brice was also named a City/County All-Star for his efforts on the hardwood last season.
Said Shayewitz, "we are excited about the addition of Cody.He will give us some size in the post that we lost to graduation this year. Cody comes from a great family and is a quality individual. He has good hands, good footwork, a nice shooting touch, and is an excellent passer. It will take some time for him to adjust to the speed of the college game, but he has a bright future. We are proud to have him part of our family."
Sonoma State finished 11-17 in 2009-10 and made an appearance in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship Tournament before being ousted by Humboldt State in the opening round. The Seawolves will lose two players to graduation next season –
Kyle Shandera and
Chad Chambers.
