CARSON, Calif- Simone Brandalise smashed a two-run home run and teammates Janelle Arnold and LeeAnn Stroud added solo shots to power Sonoma State past Cal State Dominguez Hills, 7-1, in game one of  Sunday's doubleheader in Carson. Brandalise then added a three-run shot in game two and the Seawolves held on to a 7-6 victory in the nightcap. The Seawolves took four out of five from the Toros this weekend, who improved to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference. CSUDH fell to 7-5 (4-4 CCAA).

In the opener, Cal State Dominguez Hills drew first blood in the bottom of the second when Michelle Miranda scored on a triple by Jessica Marlow to put the Toros up 1-0.

Arnold fired right back in the top half of the third inning with a solo blast to center field to even the score at one. From then on, Seawolves starting pitcher Julianne Martinez was set on cruise control, retiring 12 of her next 15 batters. She went six innings, giving up just two hits and the aforementioned run, all coming in the second inning.

Sonoma State grabbed the 2-1 lead in the fourth inning when Stroud supplied more fireworks with a solo home run to left center. In the Seawolves next at bat, Brandalise blasted the two-run shot to center, part of a three-run inning that gave Sonoma State a comfortable four run lead at 5-1. Two more insurance runs over the next two innings gave the Seawolves the 7-1 victory.

Not only did she do damage at the plate, Brandalise came on to pitch the seventh inning, giving up just one hit while striking out one.

Stroud had three hits in the victory while Arnold, Ashley Britton and Kayla Ledford had two hits each.

In the nightcap, Brandalise put the Seawolves on the board first when she blasted her second home run of the day -- a three-run shot to left center, giving Sonoma State a 3-0 lead. An inning later, Vanessa Currie hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Britton to go ahead 4-0.

Cal State Dominguez Hills wouldn't go away though, putting up a three spot in the bottom of the fourth. The Toros threatened to bring home more runs as CSUDH had the bases loaded with two outs, but a groundout to J. Martinez ended the inning.

In the sixth inning Rochelle Vanyi and Arnold hit RBI doubles which brought in three insurance runs, and it would prove to count. The Toros scored three runs in the final two innings; however, Martinez struck out Katie Jordan to end the game and record her fourth victory this season within the pitching circle.

Vanyi, Arnold and Brandalise each had two hits to pace the Seawolves, including the three-run home run by Brandalise, who helped her self out as the starting pitcher. She went three innings and scattered six hits, giving up three runs.

Sonoma State will return home to face UC San Diego on Friday (Feb. 26) and Saturday (Feb. 27).
