ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Two stars off Sonoma State's 2009 baseball team will see their careers continue at the professional level as it was announced this week that Ian Bridges and Leo Avila have signed with the Oakland County Cruisers of the independent Frontier League.

Bridges, the 2008 CCAA Most Valuable Player and West Region Player of the Year batted .394 as a junior, a mark that ranks third on the school's all-time list.  He also ranks among the school's top ten in career hits (165, fourth), career RBIs (97, sixth), and career walks (66, tenth).  Last season, Bridges hit .333 with five home runs and 29 RBIs.

Avila, a sure-handed shortstop in 2007 and 2009 for the Seawolves hit .269 as a junior, but saw his average rise to .310 as a senior.  His offense, combined with his defense, culminated in Second Team All-CCAA honors for the San Jose native in 2009.

Bridges and Avila will join another former Sonoma State player, Zack Pace, on the Cruisers.  Pace, who played at Sonoma in 2005 and 2006, batted .304 with 37 stolen bases last season for the Midwest Sliders who, this year, will become the Oakland County Cruisers.

A part of the Detroit, Michigan metropolitan area, the Cruisers' name is a reference to the auto industry.
