ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Sonoma State women's water polo head coach Coralie Simmons has been selected as an assistant coach on the women's senior national water polo team. She will help help guide Team USA at the World Championships in Rome this summer.
Simmons is no stranger to the sport at an international level, having led the team to a silver medal at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. The winner of the Cutino Award in 2001, Simmons was named National Collegiate Player of the Year in 1997 and 1998, when she played under current US National Team head coach Adam Krikorian at UCLA.
This past season, Simmons led the Seawolves to fourth place at the WWPA Championship Tournament, their highest-ever finish.
"It's an honor to represent USA Water Polo at the international level," said Simmons. "The staff and athletes are an amazing combination that should continue to turn heads. I look forward to World Championships in Rome this coming July."
Simmons will join the team for their first major international competition, the 2009 FINA World League Super Final, set for June 9th through 14th in Kirishi, Russia.
