Lindsay Emmel Picks Up NFCA All-Region Honors

Lindsay Emmel is second in school history in strikeouts
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Lindsay Emmel added another All-Region award on Wednesday to her already impressive post-season awards haul.  This time, Emmel has been selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's (NFCA) All-West Region team.

Emmel finished up her senior season with a record of 19-11 and an ERA of 1.72.  She also struck out 191 batters, tops in the CCAA and second for a single-season in school history.  Emmel set the school record back in 2007 with 202 strikeouts and her two-year total of 393 are second all-time.

With her selection to the first team, both will now be under consideration for NFCA All-America honors.

As a team, the Seawolves enjoyed one of the most successful seasons in school history.  At 36-25 overall, the squad turned in their first winning record since 2000 and they broke the school mark with two NCAA Tournament wins.

ROHNERT PARK, Calif- If you missed Saturday's softball doubleheader between Sonoma State and 18th-ranked Cal State Monterey Bay, you won't want to miss Sunday's twinbill. After splitting the two games, including a walk-off home run by Simone Brandalise in game two, the Seawolves and Otters remain tied atop the CCAA standings. The Seawolf Sports Network will bring the doubleheader to you in a live audio broadcast, beginning at approximately 11:45 a.m.

ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Simone Brandalise picked a great time to get her first hit of the day. Sonoma State tied the ballgame up at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh and an inning later, Brandalise blasted a walk off solo home run over the left center field fence, sending the Seawolves into a frenzied celebration at home plate after the 3-2 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. The win salvaged the split between the two squads as the Otters squeaked out a 1-0 victory in the opening game. Both teams remain tied in first place atop the CCAA standings at 11-3.

ROHNERT PARK, Calif- With rain falling in the Sonoma Valley and more in the forecast on Friday, the highly-anticipated softball series between Sonoma State and Cal State Monterey Bay has been shifted to Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's doubleheader will start at 1 p.m. and the Seawolves and Otters will wrap up their four-game series on Sunday with a twinbill, beginning at Noon.

HAYWARD, Calif- Off to one of their best starts in program history, Sonoma State continued to show its offensive power, blasting five home runs in two games against the Cal State East Bay Pioneers on Saturday, en route to 3-2 and 9-2 victories at Pioneer Field. The Seawolves have won five straight games, and have also won nine of their last 10 ballgames, improving to 15-4 overall and 10-2 in CCAA play. The Pioneers fell to 4-12.

HAYWARD, Calif- Ashley Britton had five hits, including three doubles, and Janelle Arnold added four hits and a home run to highlight a huge offensive day by Sonoma State, giving the Seawolves 8-0 and 12-5 victories over host Cal State East Bay on Friday afternoon at Pioneer Field in Hayward. Sonoma State, who is receiving votes in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II poll, improve to 13-4 overall and 8-2, one game out of first place in the CCAA standings. The Pioneers fall to 4-10.

SANTA ROSA, Calif- Rochelle Vanyi hit the go-ahead home run in the bottom of sixth inning and pitcher Samantha Lipperd pitched out of a huge bases loaded jam with no outs to preserve the 4-3 victory over UC San Diego in game two of Sunday's doubleheader at Santa Rosa Junior College. Sonoma State fell to the Tritons in the opener, 2-0. The Seawolves improve to 11-4 overall and 6-2 in the CCAA. UCSD falls even at 8-8 overall and 6-6 in conference play.

SANTA ROSA, Calif- Pitchers Julianne Martinez and Samantha Lipperd combined to allow just two runs and LeeAnn Stroud hit a home run in game two as Sonoma State swept visiting UC San Diego, 3-0 and 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at Santa Rosa Junior College. The Seawolves have won four straight games, improving to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in the CCAA. The Tritons fell to 7-7 (5-5 CCAA).
