ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Sonoma State senior goalkeeper
Brook Johnson was named to the Daktronics NCAA Division II West Region Men's Soccer First Team for the second straight year. Senior
Stuart Gallant and junior
Ryan Hall also joins Johnson on the first team as it was announced Wednesday.
Midfielder
Cory Taufer rounded out the regional honors by Sonoma State by earning a selection to the All-West Region Second Team.
Johnson, who earned All-America Honorable Mention honors a season ago, notched his second consecutive selection to the All-West Region first team after helping the Seawolves to an appearance in the NCAA Division II West Region Tournament. He led the California Collegiate Athletic Association in saves with 101 and was among the conference leaders with a 0.90 goals against average. Johnson recorded eight shutouts, adding to his career record total of 32. He earned first team All-CCAA honors earlier this season.
Gallant and Hall also earned first team honors for their efforts on defense, but also for their presence on the offensive end of the field. Gallant, a 5-5 native of Coronado, converted both penalty kicks for the Seawolves this season, both of which were game winners. Hall was tied for second on the team with four goals and added an assist.
Taufer, a sophomore from Clovis, earned second team all-region honors as a midfielder, helping the Seawolves to be one of the best defensive teams in the conference. He assisted on two goals this season and was named to the All-CCAA First Team for his efforts.
Each of the first-team all-region players will now be listed on the Daktronics Division II Men's Soccer All-America ballot. The All-America team will be announced in December.
Sonoma State, who won the CCAA North Division for the sixth consecutive season with a 10-3-3 record, finished 14-5-4 overall but fell in the opening round of the NCAA tournament to Cal State Dominguez Hills.
