OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Sonoma State men's tennis team fell on the losing end of a 6-3 score on Sunday afternoon in Oakland to No. 41 Holy Names to wrap up the 2015 regular season. The Seawolves will enter the Pacific West Conference Championships on Thursday in Arizona with a 4-13 record while the Hawks improved to 7-10.
The tandem of
Blaine Mengert and
Logan Liddell improved to 8-8 in dual matches this season with an 8-6 victory at No. 2 over Holy Names' Adam Duong and Patrick Johnson, but it would be the only point scored by Sonoma State in doubles play.
In the singles competition,
Vincent Paganetti earned his 29th career win with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Duong at No. 6 and
Philip Holbrook was leading 6-2, 2-0 before his opponent, Tracy Beblie, retired due to injury, capturing the Seawolves' third point of the day, but that's all they would get in the 6-3 loss.
Noah Lee found himself in another back-and-forth, three-set battle with Rafael Martinez at No. 2, but Martinez once again edged Lee, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (9-7).
