#37 Santa Clara 7, Sonoma State 0
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The Sonoma State men's tennis team came up empty on Saturday afternoon in a 7-0 defeat to the 37th-ranked team in NCAA Division I, Santa Clara.
Vincent Paganetti and
Drexler Dy each put up fights in singles, but the Seawolves couldn't quite pry a point off the Broncos. It marks the fourth loss to a Division I opponent for Sonoma, as they fall to 2-7 overall. Santa Clara goes to 7-3.
Drexler Dy pushed Tom Pham in the first set of their match at No. 3 singles before the Bronco senior went on to the win. Incidentally, the victory established a new school record for singles wins in a career for Pham.
Paganetti went down 7-6 in the first set of his No. 6 singles match, before falling in the second, 6-1.
The Seawolves return to action on Sunday when they host perennial NCAA Division III power UC Santa Cruz.
