Seawolves' Upset Bid Falls Just Short Against Otters, 54-50

Jaclyn Bisordi's 20 points led all scorers on Thursday night.
BOX SCORE
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Time and time again the Sonoma State women's basketball team has shown they can play with any team in the conference.  Unfortunately, Thursday night was another occasion where the Seawolves wound up just short as they fell to the third place Cal State Monterey Bay, 54-50, at the Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park.  Jaclyn Bisordi scored 20 points for the second time in her last three games to lead all scorers as the Seawolves dropped to 8-11, 6-9 CCAA.  The Otters see their record bump to 14-4, 11-3 CCAA.

The Seawolves played the Otters tight right from the beginning.  Bisordi made sure of that, scoring the Seawolves' first nine points- six of them coming on three-pointers.  The lead would volley back in forth in the first half, with four ties and six lead changes, before the Otters' used an 8-0 run to open up a 24-17 lead.

Trailing 25-19 at the half, the Seawolves sliced the lead down to one twice in the second half, the last time coming at 28-27 with 16:24 left.  From that point, the Otters went on another 8-0 run to push the lead back to nine.  It would eventually get as big as 15, at 48-33, capping a 20-6 run for Cal State Monterey Bay, before the Seawolves began chipping away.

The Seawolves held the Otters to just six points in the final 9:22, and without a field goal in the final 5:37, to make things a bit more interesting than the visitors would have liked.  A 15-4 Sonoma run cut the lead down to four with 26 seconds left, but a pair of missed three-pointers on the offensive end kept the Seawolves from completing the comeback.

Bisordi had more than twice as many points as anyone else in the contest, finishing with 20 on 7-of-14 shooting and four three-pointers.  She led her squad in scoring for the ninth time in her last 11 games.  Taylor Vigil had eight points and Bronte Sheahan was tops with six rebounds.

After shooting just 32.0% in the first half, the Seawolves picked it up to 48.3% in the second.

Steanie Corgel paced a balanced scoring attack for the Otters with nine points.  Brandi Stephens and Shonetta Crain-Williams each had eight and Brandi Jefferson sniffed a double-double with seven points and nine rebounds.

The Seawolves return to the hardwood on Saturday night when they host Cal State East Bay.  The Pioneers will enter the game on a high, after defeating Humboldt State 57-52 up in Arcata on Thursday evening.
