Official NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship Tournament Bracket (.pdf)

INDIANAPOLIS -- For the first time since 2000, the Sonoma State women's soccer team is headed back to the NCAA tournament...and they won't have to travel far.  The Seawolves have earned the No. 1 seed in the West Region and will host the First and Second Rounds of the single-elimination NCAA Division II Women's Soccer West Regional Tournament on Friday and Sunday at the Seawolf Soccer Field in Rohnert Park.  As the No. 1 seed, Sonoma State will have a first-round bye and on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., SSU will play the winner of Friday's 2:00 p.m. first-round matchup between No. 4 seed Cal Poly Pomona and No. 5 seed Western Washington.

It is the first time in 12 years that the SSU women's soccer program has played in the NCAA tournament, and it is also the first time in 14 years that the team has hosted an NCAA tournament event.  Back in 1998, Sonoma State hosted its first two games of the playoffs before eventually moving on to lose in the national championship game in Florida a couple of weeks later.  In the program's last appearance in 2000, SSU lost 2-0 in the opening round at UC San Diego.

On the other side of the West Region bracket, UC San Diego will host as the No. 2 seed with a first-round bye.  The Tritons will play the winner of No. 3 seed Seattle Pacific and No. 6 BYU-Hawaii.  The winner of the two West Regional matches on Sunday will advance to the Third Round, which will take place at one of the host schools in the South Central Region the following weekend.

The Seawolves, who are coming off of a loss by penalty kicks in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship match to UC San Diego on Sunday, despite ending in a 1-1 tie, are 16-2-2 this season.  They captured the CCAA North Division title after going 11-2-1 in conference play.
