Student-Athletes Bowl Turkeys, Strikes For Hunger

The 2010 Turkey Bowl at Grocery Outlet in Rohnert Park.
ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Last weekend, the SSU Wolfpack, alongside members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), baseball, women's cross country, women's golf and men's tennis teams, joined together to bowl strikes for hunger -- with turkeys.

The six hour "Turkey Bowl" brought out community members and kids of all ages to take part in the festivities aimed at helping the organization Neighbors Organized Against Hunger (NOAH) ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

The student-athletes teamed up with members of the community to form teams of two in the parking lot of the Grocery Outlet in Rohnert Park. All-in-all, 25 teams made up of businesses, community leaders and community members all attempted to bowl a strike for hunger. The teams together earned seven strikes; therefore, seven whole turkey's were donated to NOAH.

In addition to the Turkey Bowl, a food donation stand was on site to accept various donations and the members of the women's cross country team also set up a booth to paint the faces of kids who attended the event.
