WALNUT CREEK, Calif- Sonoma State senior defender
Lindsay Catton has been named to the First Team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), it was announced by the league office Thursday. Senior
Tracy Webster and sophomore
Katie Parucha earned All-CCAA Honorable Mention accolades as well.
"It is a very nice honor for these three student-athletes," head coach
Luke Oberkirch said. "The CCAA is the best conference, top to bottom, in the country so when you are recognized by the coaches, it means you had a fantastic season."
Catton, a native of Rohnert Park and a four-year starter for Sonoma State, earns First Team All-conference honors for the second consecutive season after anchoring a solid Seawolves defense. She was second on the team in goals scored with five and also co-led the team in assists with three, including two that helped Sonoma State defeat Humboldt State in the final match of the season last Sunday. In her career, Lindsay scored 17 goals and notched 14 assists, including a team-leading nine goals as a defender last season that earned Daktronics Second Team All-American honors for her efforts.
"Without question, Lindsay is the one of the best defenders in the CCAA and in the west region," Oberkirch said. "She has done it all during the past few seasons. She has helped defend, she has scored goals and she also gets assists, which is unique for a defender in our conference. Lindsay was a great leader for our young team and her intensity was one of the keys to helping us compete evenly with all the teams in the conference."
Webster, from nearby Sebastopol, appeared in all 81 of Sonoma State's matches over the past four seasons as the team's main scoring threat. One of the fastest girls in the conference, she was the team leader in goals in three of the last four seasons, including a team-high six goals this season. It is the third All-CCAA Honorable Mention award for Webster as she earned the same honors as a freshman and sophomore.
"Tracy did a good job leading our attack but was really affected by not having several players out for the year with injuries," Oberkirch explained. "It is always difficult when the other team is keying on you and I think she did a good job with what she had to work with."
Parucha, hailing from Manhattan Beach, started in 14 of 19 matches she appeared in, scoring three goals including the game winner on Sunday against Humboldt State. She also notched one assist as a midfielder in 2009.
Said Oberkirch, "Katie really settled into the center midfield position and had a very consistent season and she scored a few key goals down the stretch to keep us in the playoff picture."
Sonoma State ended the season at 8-9-3 overall and 6-7-3 in the CCAA, good for a co-second place finish with San Francisco State.
