ROHNERT PARK, Calif- The awards just keep coming for the Sonoma State volleyball team. Sophomores Taylor Krenwinkel and Keala Peterson have been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-West Region Team and freshman Ally Sather earned honorable mention accolades. It was announced Tuesday.

It is the third time in history that a Sonoma State player has landed on the AVCA All-West Region team -- and the Seawolves landed three this season.

"It symbolizes our progress towards being one of the top teams in the region and in the country that we landed three underclassmen on the all-region team this season," head coach Bear Grassl said. "It bodes well for our future that we will return these players next season as well as nine other letterwinners from this season."

Krenwinkel, who was a second team all-conference selection this season, led the California Collegiate Athletic Association in digs per set with 4.73. With 539 digs this season, Krenwinkel set a new mark for most digs by a sophomore in a single-season and also went over the 1,000 dig milestone in her career. The 5-7 libero from San Diego has 1,062 career digs.

Peterson, a six-foot outside hitter from Sebastopol, earned all-region honors after leading the team in kills per set (4.18). She smashed 401 kills this season, breaking the single-season record for most kills by a sophomore. Peterson also led the team with 13 double-doubles as well as 260 digs.

Sather, a six-foot outside hitter from nearby Santa Rosa, led the team with 442 kills, shattering the record for most kills by a freshman earlier this season. She, along with Peterson, was among the conference and national leaders in kills per set, finishing the 2009 season with 3.98 per set.

Only two other players in Sonoma State history landed on the all-region team -- Christina Difani in 1997 and Kristy Sather in 2007.

Sonoma State ended its 2009 season with a 23-8 record for the second straight year. In their third ever appearance in the postseason, the Seawolves fell in five sets to Cal State L.A. in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Tournament last Thursday.
