SKILLMAN, N.J.- The Sonoma State men's tennis team has been honored as April's recipient of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Natinoal Team Sportsmanship Award. The ITA National Team Sportsmanship Award is a monthly award that goes out to one men's and one women's team that has exemplified outstanding sportsmanship, character and ethical conduct in the true spirit of competition and collegiate tennis.
"Having our team win the ITA National Team Sportsmanship Award is a great honor," said SSU men's tennis coach
Steve Cunninghame, "We are as excited about being recognized as a team that plays the game right as we are about the national ranking and NCAA berth we earned this year."
The Sonoma State men's tennis team garnered their fair share of success on the court this season as well, finishing ranked 33rd in the nation and earning their third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Said Cunninghame, "We have a close knit team that loves and supports each other."
As the governing body of collegiate tennis, the ITA promotes both the athletic and academic achievements of the collegiate tennis community. Founded in 1956, the ITA administers numerous regional and national championships as well as awards programs and rankings for all levels of intercollegiate tennis.
