DENVER, Colo. -- The Sonoma State men's tennis team took a 2-1 lead into singles play against No. 46 Metro State, but the host Roadrunners rallied for a 5-4 win over the Seawolves on Sunday in Denver, Colo., clinching the match at No. 6 singles. Sonoma falls to 3-9 this season while Metro State moves above .500 at 6-5.
In doubles,
Philip Holbrook and
Noah Lee snatched a 9-8 (2) win at No. 1 doubles along with an 8-6 win by
Blaine Mengert and
Logan Liddell at No. 2 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Metro State then earned straight-set wins at No. 1, 4 and 5, while Mengert (6-0, 6-4) and Lee (5-7, 6-1, 6-4) evened the match up at 4-4, leaving it up to
Vincent Paganetti for the second straight day. Paganetti captured a win in the first set, but his opponent rallied for two straight wins to steal the 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 victory and clinch the 5-4 match win for the host Roadrunners.
Sonoma State will return home to face Hawaii Hilo on Tuesday at 1:00 pm in Rohnert Park.
