ROHNERT PARK -- Originally scheduled to play Notre Dame de Namur in Oakland Friday morning before battling Mills College on the same courts, scheduling conflicts forced the Sonoma State women's tennis team to host NDNU in Rohnert Park in the morning before hitting the road to Oakland for its match against Mills in the afternoon. It wouldn't slow the Seawolves, however, as they cruised to a pair of 9-0 wins, improving their record to 10-6 this season.
In the morning match against Notre Dame de Namur, the duos of
Leire Martinez/
Jacquelyn Ward and
Karlee Budge/
Hillary Fazekas shutout their opponents 8-0 at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, respectively. Sonoma State won by default at No. 3 doubles for the 3-0 lead.
In singles play, Budge earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1, it was her first-ever match at the top of the lineup.
Julie Rea (6-3, 6-0), Fazekas (6-0, 6-0) and
Janie Anderson (6-0, 6-1) also recorded victories in singles, contributing to the 9-0 win over the Argonauts to start the day.
After hopping on southbound Highway 101 and arriving in Oakland an hour later, the Seawolves made quick work of host Mills College, which only won one game against SSU on Friday in the 6-1, 6-0 triumph by
Julie Rea at No. 5 singles. Martinez/Ward, Budge/Fazekas and
Jordyn Kearney/Rea all won 8-0 in doubles before Martinez, Kearney, Budge, Ward and Fazekas earned 6-0, 6-0 shutouts in singles.
Sonoma State will host a scrimmmage on Saturday with Sierra College at the SSU Tennis Courts, then welcome Hawaii Hilo into town for an 11:00 am match on Tuesday, also in Rohnert Park.
