ROHNERT PARK -- With another successful year in the books for the student-athletes at Sonoma State University, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is proud to announce that 62 Seawolves earned All-Academic honors by their respective conferences for the 2013-14 school year.
In addition, 12 other student-athletes that were not eligible for conference awards and/or compete on a team not affiliated with a conference, earned Academic Distinction by SSU for having a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher. With an overall total of 74 Seawolves earning academic honors, it is an increase from last year's tally of 64.
The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) placed 44 Seawolves on its All-Academic list, the Pacific West Conference named 14 men's and women's tennis student-athletes and the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) recognized four women's water polo members for academic excellence.
The student-athletes that make up the Sonoma State athletics department as a whole combined to earn a 3.030 GPA for the 2013-14 academic year, up from a 2.957 GPA in 2012-13. Other noteworthy academic statistics:
Of the 266 student-athletes at Sonoma State in 2013-14...
-- 53.76% earned a 3.00 GPA or higher
-- 21.05% earned a 3.50 GPA or higher
-- 9.77% earned a 3.75 GPA or higher
-- 3.01% earned a 3.90 GPA or higher
-- Two (2) earned a perfect 4.00 GPA
Below are schools in the CCAA, ranked in order of student-athletes named to the CCAA All-Academic Team in 2013-14. A total of 567 student-athletes were named to the CCAA's scholar list, which is an increase from last year (2012-13) when 512 were honored and the year before that (2011-12) when 480 were named:

8. SONOMA STATE (44), 9. Humboldt State (37), 10. Cal State San Bernardino (36), 11. Cal State Dominguez Hills (28), 12. Cal State L.A. (24).
In order to earn All-Academic status by the CCAA, student-athletes must have maintained a grade point average of 3.40 or higher over a course load of at least 24 units at their current institution. They also must be a letterwinner on one of the Seawolves' nine intercollegiate athletic teams sponsored by the CCAA. For men's and women's tennis players to be nominated for All-Academic status by the PacWest, student-athletes (true freshmen and redshirts included) must have earned a 3.00 GPA or higher. To be eligible for All-Academic status by the ACWPC, student-athletes must have carried a 3.20 GPA or higher, played in at least 50 percent of the team's contests and was classified as a full-time student, who completed a minimum of one semester at SSU.
