#13 Grand Canyon 8, Sonoma State 1

LA JOLLA, Calif. -- Drexler Dy cruised to a first-set win and held on for the victory in a narrow tiebreaking third-set, but it would be the only point gained by Sonoma State in Friday's 8-1 neutral-site loss to 13th-ranked Grand Canyon at Northview Tennis Courts in La Jolla, Calif.  The Seawolves, who are the ninth-ranked team in the West Region in the latest poll released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), fall to 3-15 this season.  The Antelopes have won five straight, improving to 11-3.

Dy scored a convincing 6-2 win in the first set against GCU's Arjun Bal, but Bal would even the match at 1-1 with a 7-6 (10-6) triumph in set number two, using extra play to do so.  The tiebreaker would become a see-saw battle, but Dy eventually came out on top to win at No. 3 singles with a 10-8 victory in the extra set.

That would be it for the Seawolves as the Antelopes notched wins in straight sets throughout the rest of the singles lineup after winning all three doubles matches to open the day.

Sonoma State will play its final away match of the 2013 season on Saturday when it plays No. 41 BYU-Hawaii at 11:00 a.m., also at Northview Tennis Courts in La Jolla.  The Seawolves then return home to play their final two matches of the season, starting with an Apr. 6 tilt with 12th-ranked Fresno Pacific at the SSU Tennis Courts.
