Eckstedt Voted To Capital One Academic All-District Team

Capital One Academic All-DIstrict At-Large Teams

ROHNERT PARK, Calif.
-- Sonoma State University men's tennis senior Greg Eckstedt has been named to the 2012 Capital One Division II Academic All-District® At-Large Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.  The All-Academic At-Large Teams released on Friday afternoon are to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Eckstedt, from San Jose, Calif., was one of 10 Division II male student-athletes from District VIII to be named to the All-Academic At-Large Team.  He sports a 3.58 grade point average as a Communication Studies major. 

The 2012 season was the only season that Eckstedt appeared in a match for head coach Steve Cunninghame and the Seawolves, posting a 10-9 record in singles play and 2-6 in doubles competition.  In dual matches, Eckstedt went 10-6 in singles matches, as well as 7-3 in his last 10 matches to end his career.  He helped Sonoma State to an 8-8 record this season, including a 7-3 mark against Division II opponents and 3-1 against in-region teams.

Sports eligible for an At-Large selection are as follows:  Women's Bowling, Women's Crew, Men's and Women's Fencing, Women's Field Hockey, Men's and Women's Golf, Men's and Women's Gymnastics, Men's and Women's Ice Hockey, Men's and Women's Lacrosse, Men's and Women's Rifle, Men's and Women's Skiing, Men's and Women's Swimming, Men's and Women's Tennis, Men's Volleyball, Men's and Women's Water Polo and Men's Wrestling.

The Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
