Men's Golf Lands Three On All-America Team

The Seawolves placed a record three golfers on the All-America squad.
NORMAN, Okla-  A week after finishing fourth at the NCAA Division II Championship, three members of the Sonoma State men's golf team have been named to the GCAA/PING Division II All-America team.  Junior Patrick Bauer was recognized as a Third Team selection while sophomores Janssen Todd and Jeremy Wendelken were presented with Honorable Mention honors.

The three selections represent the highest number of All-Americans in one season for the men's golf team.  In just their seventh season of competition, the Seawolves have already had five student-athletes earn a total of ten All-America nods.

For Bauer, a junior from Colfax, it is his third All-American award.  He joins Jarin Todd as the only three-time All-American in program history and is one of just fifth student-athlete in school history to accomplish the feat.  Bauer led the Seawolves with a stroke average of 74.0, just off his career mark of 73.3 which ranks second in school history.  He finished in the top five four times this year and was the individual medalist at the TMC Mustang Invitational in the Fall.

Todd, a native of Redmond, Wash., picks up his first All-American honor.  His stroke average of 75.8 ranked fourth on the team and he became the second golfer in Sonoma State history, following his brother Jarin in 2009, to win individual medalist honors at the NCAA Regional Tournament.  In all, Todd finished in the top five on three occasions.

Wendelken, another product of Washington (Sammamish), held the distinction of turning in the lowest round of any golfer all season, when he carded a 66 on his way to first place honors at the Dominican Invitational.  His per round average of 75.0 ranked second on the team and he finished in the top 15 at both the NCAA Regional and NCAA Championship Tournaments.

The Seawolves closed out the 2010 season on a strong note with a championship at the NCAA Regional and a fourth place finish at Nationals.  Bauer, Todd, and Wendelken will all return in 2010-11 when the Seawolves will shoot for their second national title in three years.
