PEORIA, Ariz- Former Sonoma State University baseball player Tommy Everidge hit a grand slam in his 2010 Spring Training debut on Thursday, helping the Seattle Mariners to defeat the San Diego Padres, 9-3, at the Peoria Sports Complex.
Everidge, who played for the Seawolves between 2002-04, snapped a 3-3 tie in the eighth inning with his grand slam off of Padres pitcher Radhames Liz, part of a six-run outburst by the Mariners in the eighth. He also walked in his other at bat on Thursday.
The 6-0 native of Santa Rosa was claimed off waivers by the Mariners from the Oakland Athletics in January, but signed a minor league contract to remain in Seattle after being designated for assignment two weeks later.
Everidge played 24 games for the Athletics last season and hit .224 with six doubles, two home runs and seven RBI.
