Baseball Season Ends With Loss To Ouachita Baptist

Matt Means threw six no-hit innings on Friday before the rains came
Despite the loss, Matt Means' last start as a Seawolf was a good one
SAUGET, Ill-  The best season in Sonoma State baseball history came to an end on Friday with a 2-1 loss to Ouachita Baptist at the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship in Sauget, Illinois.  It was the second straight 2-1 loss to the Tigers for the Seawolves as they finish their season at 52-15.  OBU will take on Mt. Olive on Saturday in the national championship game.

The Seawolves set a school record with 52 wins on their way to their first National Championship appearance.

Ace Matt Means got the start for the Seawolves.  Though he was tagged with the loss, Means pitched very well, scattering five hits and striking out nine in seven innings of work.  Unfortunately for him, the Seawolves were again held down by a fantastic pitching performance by the Tigers.

The Seawolves didn't score until the ninth inning when Travis Babin blasted a home run to right field.  OBU's Chase Baran allowed just three hits in 6.1 innings to pick up the win.

The Seawolves had several excellent opportunities to score, but as last night, they were unable to come up with the big hit when they needed it.

For his play in the tournament, David Adler was named to the All-Tournament team.

Ian Bridges went 0-for-4 in the game to finish his season at .394.  Means improved his ERA to 1.85.  The Seawolves hit .324 as a team and had a team ERA of 3.32.  The team set a school record with 81 home runs this season.
