Sonoma State To Host USA Softball Exhibition

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  The Sonoma State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, in association with the Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA), is pleased to announce that Seawolf Field will play host to the 2008 USA Softball National Team's "Bound 4 Beijing" Tour.  Team USA will take on a regional All-Star team put together by ASA on May 18, 2008 at Seawolf Field on the campus of Sonoma State University.

The "Bound 4 Beijing" Tour, will prepare Team USA for the Olympic Games, to be held in Beijing, China in August.  Team USA is looking for their fourth consecutive Olympic Gold Medal.  Featuring legendary players like Jennie Finch and Cat Osterman, Team USA has shut out 17 of their 19 opponents on the tour through April 6th.  The squad is coached by Mike Candrea, the head coach at the University of Arizona.

Game time is set for 2:00 pm on May 18th.  Gates open at 2:00 pm.  Following the game, the team will be available for an autograph session.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif-  Sonoma State catcher Nicole Cordova has been named Second Team All-CCAA in voting by league head coaches it was announced on Tuesday by the conference office.  Cordova led the Seawolves with a .309 batting average in 2008.

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  An injury marred season came to an end on Saturday at Seawolf Field as the Sonoma State softball team dropped a doubleheader to Cal State Dominguez Hills, 4-2 and 8-2.  The Seawolves end the season at 16-36, 3-27 CCAA.  The Toros (28-23, 17-15 CCAA) are still in the mix for the NCAA West Regional tournament.

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros kept their postseason hopes alive on Friday with a doubleheader sweep of Sonoma State on the Seawolves' home diamond in Rohnert Park.  The Toros improve to 26-23, 15-15 CCAA while the Seawolves drop to 16-34, 3-25 CCAA.

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Sixth-ranked Humboldt State rode the durable right arm of All-American hurler Lizzy Prescott to a pair of wins on Saturday to complete a four-game sweep of Sonoma State at Seawolf Field in Rohnert Park.  The 'Jacks (44-14, 21-7 CCAA) won 2-0 in game one and 7-3 in game two to strengthen their hold on first place in the CCAA.  The Seawolves fall to 16-32, 3-23 CCAA.

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Sonoma State got several gritty performances on Friday, but they still ended up on the wrong end of a doubleheader sweep at the hands of the sixth-ranked team in the nation, Humboldt State.  The Lumberjacks won by scores of 3-1 and 3-0 to improve to 42-14, 19-7 CCAA.  The Seawolves drop to 16-30, 3-21 CCAA.

BELMONT, Calif-  Sonoma State used a two-out rally, capped by a Nikki Freiberg grand slam, to defeat Notre Dame de Namur 7-3 in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader on Monday in Belmont.  The Seawolves dropped game two by that same 7-3 score.  The split leaves the Seawolves with a record of 16-28 overall.

CHICO, Calif-  The Sonoma State softball team was swept in a CCAA doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Chico State by scores of 6-3 and 3-2.  The second game went to extra innings before the Wildcats picked up the game-winning run.  With the defeats, the Seawolves fall to 15-27, 3-19 CCAA.  Chico improves to 23-22, 11-13 CCAA.
