NCAA Super Regional Fields Set

The CCAA champion Seawolves enter the regionals as the No. 1 seed
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  The NCAA has announced the fields for the 2008 Division II Men's Golf West/Northwest Super Regional, to be played May 5th through 7th at Adobe Creek Golf Club in Petaluma.  Tournament host Sonoma State was granted the No. 1 seed in the West Region and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs got the No. 1 nod for the Northwest Region.

Led by league champion Sonoma State, five representatives of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) will take part in the tournament.  The Seawolves, currently ranked No. 2 in the nation, will be joined by No. 5 Cal State Stanislaus, No. 12 Chico State, No. 21Cal State San Bernardino, and Cal State Monterey Bay.  Other West Region participants include No. 15 Western Washington, Grand Canyon, and No. 22 Hawaii-Hilo.

Five individuals from teams in the West Region not competing as a squad will also participate in the tournament on their own.  The quintet from the West includes Nathan Phan of UC San Diego, Hiro Nezu of St. Martin's, John Eisentrout of St. Martin's, Dale Raybould of Northwest Nazarene, and Billy Olsen of UC San Diego.

Colorado Springs enters the Super Regionals as the 2008 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) champion.  They will compete for the Northwest's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships with St. Cloud State, Western New Mexico, Colorado State-Pueblo, Minnesota State, Fort Lewis, Nebraska-Kearney, and Colorado Christian.

Individuals competing out of the Northwest include Matt Pridey (Augustana), Bobby Arranaga (Regis), Wally Byrne (South Dakota), Aaron Hieb (Augustana), and Jimmy Spierings (Regis).

In addition to the champion from the West and Northwest Regionals, the top three teams from either region will be granted a bid to the NCAA Championship Tournament.  The top individual- not on one of the super regional competing teams- from the super regional will also advance to the NCAA Championship.  This year's event will held May 14-17 at the NCAA Division II Spring Sports Festival in Houston, Texas.
